Planning- Action plan

Action plan

Research and Planning:
- Each task has been completed and published and is also up to date. To improve we need to include more detail when discussing individual roles on posts i.e. explain clearly who did what, how was this achieved etc. We also need to upload our feedback videos for both the photographic storyboard (animatic) and the rough cut of of film. Having feedback is important because people who view our blog will want to know more about the process of our film making and how we improved our work through peer feedback.

Construction:
The titles used in our film are appropriate and we made sure to follow industry convention by looking at similar real-life films and analysing the different frames in the opening. I also think the sound we used is suitable and matches images and editing, the music we used is also copyright-free so it does not break any conventions. The majority of our camera work is controlled and makes use of a variety of shot distances and angles to make the final product more interesting. Also throughout our film we made sure to ask the permission of others especially when filming the public, this also applied when filming shots of the Gillingham football club which needed the permission from the staff. We used the fade transition in our film to cut from one scene to another, this helped the final product to seem more smooth and consistent. Mise-en-scene played an important part in our film as are characters were filmed in a range of football merchandise. We hoped to be able to portray a football fan in detail this way (showing support for your local community). However we did lose consistency in some shots due to filming mistakes.

Influential films - 'The Football Factory'

Title: The Football Factory
Genre: Crime/ Drama/ Sport
Director: Nick Love
Actors: Danny Dyer, Frank Harper, Tamer Hassan
Release Date: 14th March 2004 | 91 min
Country: UK/ US
Studio(s): Vertigo Films, Rockstar Films
Distributor(s): Momentum Pictures (UK), Touchstone Pictures (US)

Distributed by Momentum Pictures
Momentum Pictures is one of the leading independent motion picture distributors in the UK and Ireland. It was founded in 1996. Momentum handles the distribution of films produced by companies such as Alliance Communications, Alliance Films and more recently Entertainment One. It releases approximately 20 theatrical films a year and has also been known to produce and direct several dtv (Direct-to-video) releases.

Momentum Pictures has achieved both popular success and critical acclaim over the years. Some of Momentum's most successful theatrical releases include films such as Oscar, BAFTA and BIFA-winning The King's Speech, Lost in Translation, Control, Defiance, The Men Who Stare At Goats, Downfall, Law Abiding Citizen and P.S. I Love You.

Why is this film influential?
This film is influential to our studies because it studies the effects of hooliganism in football and the brutality and violence created by it between different football supporters. This is a similar theme that we hope to replicate in our own film. The film itself focuses on two different groups of English football supporters the Headhunters, who support Chelsea and the Bushwhackers, who support Millwall. The main character is Tommy Johnson portrayed by Danny Dyer who is a football hooligan in his late 20's and has begun to question his morals and the morals of those around him. Tommy's major conflict in the film stems from his inevitable ageing. This allows for some character development as Danny Dyer is usually seen as a die-hard football fan who lives for the thrill and is always looking for danger. This is also similar to one of the characters played in our film so we could relate to Danny Dyer and explore his behaviors in more detail. This could help improve our acting in our short film as we will be able to portray the different emotions and feelings of a football fan at game time.

Planning - Film Distribution

My similar film: Green Street Hooligans

Who distributed my similar film?
Universal Pictures (UK) distributed my similar film. This distributor is very well known to the film industry through being one of the major (and longest) distributors in the world since its foundation in 1912. Universal Pictures UK is part of a global franchise which has distributed many successful films during its time, from the likes of ‘Frankenstein (1941) to the Bourne Identity series of the 2000’s.

The Production Companies in my similar film:
Baker Street and Odd Lot Entertainment were the production companies in my similar. Baker Street is an independant specialist who acts as a production and exploitation of British independent films. Over the past fifteen years, Baker Street entetertainment has overseen in excess of over $200 million of production finance for television and film.
Oddlot entertainment was founded in 2001 and is an American based country. They specialise in all aspects of film making, from production to financing for both domestic and international markets. 'Green Street' was Odd Lot's first production film, with 'Ender's Game' their most recent. Both these production companies are relatively new to the film industry, yet the versatility of having the ability to choose between a UK or US company offers a lot of choice and variety for the production of my film.

The financier:
Yank Film Finance.
